BMS Case Study

Creating a new skills development product

BMS is a leading and rapidly growing, global insurance provider taking a fresh approach to people development and in particular skills development.

A key element of this strategy is the creation of a new digital product to support and guide employees in their choice of skills and in their journey to hone and improve them. This was an excellent opportunity to bring digital product development and design practices to life for a progressive learning team.

The engagement required close partnership with BMS L&D leadership and with the product development agency, in creating the new tool and to define, articulate and agree product goals and help steer the project from inception to final delivery.

Early stages of the project required discovery and scoping workshops with a range of stakeholders across the business to validate assumptions and set the right direction. Extensive research was carried out to create and draft the skills framework itself and finalise the copy for the product itself. End user feedback was woven into the project, testing early prototypes with end users through to feedback on iterations in development.

In parallel, BMS needed to define the content strategy for learning resources mapped to the skills framework and in readiness for the launch of a new LMS. A series of recommendations were made defining content types and formats to map against the skills.

Further content research identified curated content pieces for the launch phase across the skills framework.
